Valerie Adelman, CFP®
Principal and Senior Financial Planner
Bringing to the firm over twenty-five years of experience in providing comprehensive financial services to individuals and small businesses, Valerie joined FAM in 2008. As both a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner and an Enrolled Agent (EA), she brings tax planning services to the team. Prior to joining FAM, Valerie launched Chestnut Financial in 1985 to offer tax and accounting services to individuals and small businesses, which she still runs today.
In keeping with FAM’s commitment to advancing the financial planning profession, Valerie is an active member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). She is a former President and Chair of the FPA of New York and currently volunteers her time on their pro-bono committee as well as the President’s Counsel.
Education within the profession and to the general public has been at the forefront of Valerie's career. She was a member of the faculty at both New York University and Pace University in the area of income tax planning. She serves as a frequent lecturer on financial planning topics and has presented to groups at AARP, the Red Cross and the New York Public Library. Valerie also serves as Chairperson for Girls Incorporated of Westchester County, a nonprofit organization, where she participates in financial literacy programs for mothers and daughters.
Valerie is frequently quoted in the media and asked to speak on radio and television outlets. Some of her appearances include: The New York Times, The New York Post, Business Week and The Daily News, CNBC, Court TV and New York local affiliates for CBS and Fox.
Valerie received a BA in Psychology from SUNY at Binghamton and earned a master's degree as an education specialist from the University of Michigan.
